From Peru With Purpose: Why We Chose Finca Churupampa Coffee for Tamar

At Tamar Coffee, our mission is to create a better, healthier cup—by blending organic coffee with whole dates, including the seed and fruit. But not all coffee is created equal. When we set out to find the perfect bean to pair with dates, we were looking for more than flavor. We wanted quality, integrity, and purpose behind every bag.

That’s why we chose to source our coffee from Finca Churupampa in Chirinos, Cajamarca, Peru.

A Farm That Grows More Than Coffee

Finca Churupampa isn’t just a coffee farm—it’s a movement. Led by the Tocto brothers, this progressive farm is a model for sustainable agriculture and rural revitalization. Since taking over operations from their parents, the brothers have transformed the farm into a social enterprise that supports 188 local farmers through training, infrastructure, and fair pay.

The farm’s mission? To help coffee farmers improve the quality of their crop so they can increase income, break free from cycles of poverty, and build a stronger, more self-sufficient community. That’s a mission we’re proud to support.

Finca Churupampa is certified Organic, and works with farmers on everything from sustainable cultivation and vegetable farming to quality control, cupping labs, and even women’s empowerment programs like Los Lirios, a network of 49 women producers.

Why Peruvian Coffee Stands Out

Peru is one of the world’s premier origins for specialty-grade Arabica coffee, and the high-altitude microclimates of Cajamarca are especially prized. The beans grown at 1,300–2,000 meters above sea level are slowly ripened for complexity and character.

Peruvian coffees are typically known for their:

  • Mild acidity
  • Clean, sweet finish
  • Floral, nutty, and chocolate notes

This makes them ideal for anyone seeking a smooth, low-acid cup without sacrificing depth of flavor. It’s also what makes them the perfect canvas for the natural sweetness and richness of dates.

Why a Medium Roast?

We roast our Peruvian beans to a medium profile, striking the perfect balance between preserving the bean’s origin characteristics and bringing out its natural body and warmth.

Medium roast coffee is known for being:

  • Balanced in flavor and aroma
  • Smooth with no bitterness
  • Full-bodied, but never harsh

This roast allows the bean’s chocolate and nutty undertones to shine—and when blended with the earthy, caramel-like notes of whole dates, you get a cup that’s naturally sweet, low-acid, and full of depth.

The Harmony of Coffee and Dates

Tamar’s blend of organic medium-roast Peruvian coffee with whole dates creates a uniquely smooth and satisfying experience.

The dates add:

  • Natural sweetness (no sugar or cream needed)
  • Prebiotic fiber
  • Antioxidants and minerals

Together, the Peruvian beans and dates offer a drink that’s both energizing and nourishing—bold enough to feel like coffee, but gentle on the body. At Tamar, we believe that better coffee is about more than flavor—it’s about values. With every cup, you’re supporting a farm committed to fairness, sustainability, and community, and enjoying a blend crafted for balance, health, and enjoyment.
